The Right Behavior = The Right Results

Connect Competencies with Key Performance Factors.

While recognizing who your top talent is may seem obvious, overlooking even just one or two high performers can have huge implications for your organization’s employee engagement, productivity, growth, and succession planning.

So how do you go about spotting your top talent? By evaluating individuals’ Behaviors (Competencies) and Results (KPFs).

Taking it a step further, when you link Competencies with KPFs you enable your organization to attain the specific results/outcomes that fit your organization’s particular strategy and business.

Most competency models define each competency in terms of how people are expected to behaviorally demonstrate it, but stop short of explaining why demonstrating is relevant.

Key Performance Factors explain the why. A Key Performance Factor is a measurable value that demonstrates how effectively a company is achieving key business objectives.

Organizations use KPFs at multiple levels to evaluate their success at reaching targets. High-level KPFs may focus on the overall performance of the enterprise, while low-level KPFs may focus on processes in departments such as sales, marketing or a call center.

As an example, a predictive competency for someone in New Business Development is Effective Networking. The associated KPF is New Sales Prospects.

This way can you not only evaluate someone’s demonstrated Behavior, but measure the associated Results as well. Quite simply,

The Right Behavior = The Right Results
